All about donations and Quidclan fundraisers

We're really excited to now have the ability to fundraise through Quidclans. This is still in its beta form, so please contact us with any questions, bug reports or concerns. Here is a brief overview of how it works:

1. Starting a fundraiser

Fundraisers can be started only by Quidclan admins, so if you haven't already started a Quidclan you'll need to create one first. From within the Quidclan you'll be able to access the fundraising tab, where you'll find the link to get your fundraiser going.

Once you've started a fundraiser you'll be able to edit most of your settings, including your target, description and payee details (for non-charity associated fundraisers). You'll be able to end your fundraiser whenever you like.

2. Who can fundraise?

Anyone can fundraise! When you start a fundraiser, you'll have the option to associate it with an official charity. If you start a non-charity fundraiser, your contact name, email and partial payment details will be publicly listed on your fundraising page.

3. How pledges and donations work

To pledge to a fundraiser, you'll first need to join the fundraising Quidclan. You can pledge as much as you like. After making a pledge, all earnings marked 'received' in your account will go towards converting your pledge into a full donation. For registered charities Gift Aid is available as well.

Your pledges can be edited or closed at any point by accessing your donations tab in your earnings area. Pledges are converted into donations in the order that they were made, so the oldest pledge will take priority over newer pledges.

4. When a fundraiser is edited or closed

Anybody who has made a pledge to a fundraiser will be notified if the fundraising contact, payment or other details change, or if the admin closes the fundraiser.

When a fundraiser is closed, the admin can choose whether they want to keep the donations coming in from outstanding pledges. If they select this option all of the fundraiser participants will be notified and reminded that they can update or close their pledges at any point.
