Even if hotels.com themselves create a problem - getting things rectified is a nightmare

We booked and paid for (several months in advance) a hotel stay in LA - to find that when we got to the hotel (very late after long flight) that hotels.com had with no warning or knowledge cancelled our booking with the hotel whilst we were on the flight. This took a while to comprehend as we had the booking confirmations etc and we were within 24 hours of no cancellation- very lucky for us the hotel manager was on site and in good faith sorted us out with a room at such a late hour. The aftermath was unbelievable - fortunately the hotel gave us a toll free number - as it took from 6.30am until the afternoon on constant calls to try and get our situation rectified - basically you are in call centre hell with no one understanding anything or willing to take the issue and sort it out. They maintained that we had cancelled and rebooked a room in Ohio - which was not possible since we were in mid flight and within the 24 hour non cancellation period - so how this was done I have no idea. No apology or assurances - they would not reinstate our booking - having had our money for several months. All in all an absolute nightmare jeopardising our trip and losing a half day of our short break on the hours of phone calls. I had used hotels.com for the rewards so had been a good customer but that made absolutely no difference when faced with this issue of their making. Common sense or reasoning made no difference to their call centre mentality at its worst even when trying to escalate to a higher hotels.com manager and getting the hotel manager himself involved.

I always use hotels.com for bookings. Not only do you get 8-12% cashback but you also get welcome rewards so every 10 bookings you get free night. A few bookings havent tracked, but after reporting it Ive always been paid out.

The ease of this site says it all, other can learn from this. hotel options are right place most of the time, but that depends on of course your destination, if you dont want to get up early & drive to your appointment, then tough !
