I've used Play.com for several years, purchasing many dozens of items over this time, with only one DVD going missing. This was resolved, with my payment being refunded. My only 'gripe' is the lack of cashback being paid to me, and by looking at other reviewer's comments i'm not alone. Shame.

My purchase tracked correctly and then remained tracked for 14 months with no updates!
It was finally declined (silently - no notification received) because the T&Cs had been changed, in the 14 months since I made the purchase, to exclude PlayTrade purchases (these are purchases made via the main Play.com website in the normal way, but where the seller is a third party rather than Play itself). At best this is an unfair practice, but it's not a sensible use of time to wait another year or more to have it put right.
Another problem was that the purchase arrived with no invoice. When I contacted them, the seller and Play.com both stated that invoicing was the responsibility of each other.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to use Play.com for purchases involving cashback.

Fed up of PLAY, provided order numbers as they didn't track, waited 3 months for an update, which they gave as 'declined' as transaction coud not be traced. TRY USING THE ORDER NUMBER.
Fed up of it now, used them for years but now delivery is painfully slow and they refuse my card every time, put the order on hold until I ring them at my expense and they tell me that they have no idea why it hasnt gone through. They then put it through with no more information than they had originally.
Sorry Play, I'm voting with my feet, I won't be shopping with you again, and as I did a lot of Christmas shopping with you, it's your loss!

Order did not track originally, so claim raised.
When item was delivered, it was the wrong thing. So I returned it (at my own expense).
Replacement was despatched and, again, the wrong item arrived. I returned this too (again, at my own expense).
Third time lucky and the correct item did arrive. To be fair, I did get apologetic service throughout and (presumably by way of recompense for messing me around) they sent the originally, wrongly-delivered item back to me (I'd rather have had the £5 postage for the two returns, though).
Now, three months on from my order, I am told that the cashback has been declined as Play have no record of the transaction!
Don't think I'll be botherering them again...

Quick to track and pay out on cashback. However if an item is lost in the post/stolen en route, etc then cashback will not be paid when a dispute is in place.

My purchase with this retailer seemed to track no problem and despite all goods being ordered together, they decided to split the goods when sending them out. They then paid the cashback for a couple of the items but declined the others??? When raising a claim against this, I noticed that these particular categories had a minimum £50 spend - added together, the declined goods were over this amount but since they split the deliveries, they have refused the cashback - is this a ploy to get out of paying?? I'm really not happy with this company right now but we'll see how the second claim transpires... With this in mind, they've already lost business from me as I was about to order some DVD's for the kids and Play is the last company I'll be using!

Play, in the past, have been my preferred retailer for DVD/Games etc... but now that they've changed from being a direct supplier to a 'marketplace' ebay-lite style service then this might change. I hope not, but I'm now more wary of them as you never quite know what speed of service you'll receive since each supplier might differ.

Placed two orders with Play about 12 hours apart on the 7th Jan. Neither order tracked, so I raised a claim for each. Then on the 20th March Play declined both cashback claims. I queried this, and asked Quidco to look into it. The day after, Quidco put through both as confirmed as "goodwill" from them , NOT from Play. I am glad that I've got my money, but why should Play get away with declining both transactions when I paid for the items, they arrived and I kept them. Play said there was no record of the transactions, even though after they said this they were both there in my Play account!
I will not be using them again. I feel I cannot trust them, as these two orders only generated a relatively small amount of cashback and were declined. I would be seriously niffed if the cashback was for a large amount.

I ordered from a merchant selling on Play.com and the item arrived quickly and well packaged. Price was good, and I am happy with the product. Would definitely use the same merchant again.
However, the cashback failed to track on Play.com, and not for the first time. I raised a claim, and after a few months of waiting for them to chase it up, it was denied on the basis that they couldn't track my order number. Considering I have long since paid for the product, I feel a bit cheated since I'm clearly not getting what is advertised (5% cashback) and now they've denied it I can't take it any further.
Not likely to use them again anytime soon due to this experience, unless they improve their claims procedure.

Swift tracking and swift payment of cashback, with reasonable rates too.
My only gripe with Play.com is that they have become a broker of sorts, and if you buy four items you end up receiving four parcels from four different companies. Makes a life a bit more complicated, but you can still place one order and make one payment.

I have used Play.com several times and am generally appy with the service. But this time they annoyed me by processing my order using the card details from a previous transaction. This meant I did nt get the chance to change the delivery address and the item that I had chosen as a gift was sent to my home address instead of to my Mum for Mother's day. And it still has not arrived at my house yet! Much slower than usual.

Have used Play.com many times without any problems. However, when a purchased a simple beenie hat only £2.25, had to chase the supplier (skateslime) weeks after purchase & they also declined my cashback as purchase not recognised. It was clearly a purchase through quidco as they had tracked it & I submitted all the purchase details as well. It was only 16p, but its the principle that counts, thats what quidco is all about. Poor from me, maybe not Play but definitely their partner.

Always found play.com to offer great value for money. The free delivery can take upto 5-7 working days, and this is probably the only draw back. Otherwise excellent service. I buy a lot of this from play and NEVER had any problems. I also sell on play as a playtrader.

Play.com used to be a reputable company - gone way downhill in recent years. Not only are their products often of dubious quality, but their delviery times are unpredictable to say the least. On top of that, they declined by Quidco payment without reason. Nice.

Great items, from Play - just a shame that as a "faster paying" site it has still taken just short of two months to pay the first amount of cashback. If this is how long a faster paying site pays the cashback, I dread to think how long the others will take.

Bought an item from Play.com in December 2011. Despite the goods tracking immediately, still no payment over 1 year later. Claim to be faster payers an absolute joke.
The amount is pretty small but it is the principle. Also Quidco support not much help. Just a couple of automated standard replies when contacted about the lack of progress.
If play say its in stock it may be true or not

Ordered a book shown to be in stock. Three months and mulitple emails later they say they will now 'never' have the book in stock and cancelled my order.
They have no understanding of customer service at all & can not answer very simple questions (which I even had to number the three questions to get answers). The answers took three separate emails.
Play used to be good three years ago now I will not use them anymore

Play have always been good value, although aren't always the cheapest any more. They have always provided good customer service, only down side is for some reason delivery can sometimes take longer than expected. Sill i will continue to shop there for all my blu-ray dvd and games.

I ordered a DVD box set and paid £4.99 for next day delivery as I needed it quickly and that was the only way I could guarantee that I'd be in when it came. I ordered it on a Friday so I was expecting it to turn up on the Monday, but it didn't. Nor did it arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Play don't have a contact number on their site and wouldn't respond to my emails asking for an update on where my item was. I did get a response from their Twitter account but, while they were obviously trying to help, they couldn't update me on the location of my item either.
It eventually turned up four days late, and slightly damaged, having been sent Royal Mail Standard Delivery instead of the Express that I paid for. I DID get the postage refunded, by the people who were ignoring my emails according to the Twitter people, but I'm still very disappointed by the whole experience and I doubt I'll be buying from them again.
Cost wise it was the cheapest I could find and Cashback was paid really quickly. However if you need an item quickly and some support if something goes wrong then I'd recommend paying a bit extra and going elsewhere.

Play.com doesn't happen automatically; I frequently have to raise a cashback claim and it's getting to be annoying. They also don't pay properly on pre-orders. All-in-all, it's a significant amount of hassle getting your 18p or whatever from them.

... then go elsewhere. play.com's customer service is dreadful and outright dishonest. After being sent a DVD which was scratched as it came off it's spindle, I returned it at my expense and the rotten company haven't refunded me. I also suspect that, as it arrived around a week or so late, that my DVD was watched by someone at play as there was no shrinkwrap present, which is very unusual these days when just about every other new DVD is stretchwrapped or something.
The horrible people at play.com have ignored my emails.
Thanks for ruining a disabled person's birthday, play.com.
