Founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Roy Moëd, LifeBook is a professional autobiography service which offers a unique experience and product for both the author and their family.
The social business was established as a result of Roy's own deeply personal experience with his father Jules Moëd. Being almost blind, Jules was left with very few activities that he could enjoy and had nothing left to share apart from the ‘same old stories’. Roy felt his father was frustrated and felt he had little to contribute. Therefore, Roy and his colleague, Kathy created a folder with the chapters of his father’s life. Being an impartial adult outside of Jules’ family, Kathy visited him weekly and used the blank chapters to start asking him questions about his life stories. This experience helped Roy’s father to recall memories he had long stopped reflecting on and to recount stories that he never knew he had forgotten. Years later Roy realised the value of the storytelling and the priceless book he now had forever, ‘Life is for Sharing’.
LifeBook spent 2 years developing and refining a unique process that would deliver a beautiful and personal book with companionship at an affordable cost. It is the only company in the world operating this way and as such is creating a totally new sector. The ghost-written autobiographies are conducted through a series of face-to-face interviews and consultations that the author has on a weekly basis over a six month (LifeBook) or three month period (LifeBook Express) dependent on their needs. The complete book, taking some 110 hours of work to create, costs £2,950 in the UK and each client receives ten hardback books. This is fully inclusive although enhancements are available such as coffee table editions or sound recordings and bespoke edits for birthday parties or events.
