Helpful Information

Shopping Skyscanner Flights

Founded in 2003, Skyscanner has changed the game when it comes to finding cheap flights, operating an independent and entirely free service that lets you book low-cost plane tickets direct with airlines and travel companies.

Skyscanner searches trawl millions of flights from thousands of providers, helping you find the cheapest way of getting wherever you need to go.

Why book flights through Skyscanner?

There’s a reason that Skyscanner is more popular than any other fare aggregator, attracting a staggering sixty million visitors per month.

The site consistently beats other flight search engines and traditional online booking companies and, as a result, Skyscanner has been recommended by the likes of The Guardian, The Independent, and Which? Travel.

It has a huge number of airline and online travel agent partners and guarantees clear and reliable results. What’s more, Skyscanner doesn’t charge a commission or any extra fees on any of your bookings.

Skyscanner flights

No one wants to pay more than they have to for their plane tickets, but Skyscanner knows finding the best deal isn’t always easy. With so many different airlines promising to bring travellers low-cost flights, Skyscanner does all the hard work of comparing prices to find out who’s really bringing you value for money.

Skyscanner is an especially useful resource for users with flexible travel plans, as you can easily move between flight prices for consecutive days and can also access a calendar view of the lowest fares for the whole month.

You can also select an “add nearby airports” search option, which expands your results to show you if you could save money flying to or from other airports in the same city or region.

Tips and reviews from the Skyscanner community

The Skyscanner website is crammed full of useful information and advice on how to plan your trip. Visit the Skyscanner forum to discover what millions of Skyscanner community members are saying about the latest deals and travel hacks, and to find the answers to common questions about searching and shopping.

Meanwhile, the Travel News section of Skyscanner offers reviews, features, and guides on the best places to eat and stay from Cologne to Cape Town, as well as tips that'll help you pack, budget, navigate and communicate better when you travel.

Book with confidence

When you make a flight booking with Skyscanner, you're taken straight to the ticket seller’s website, so your payments and personal information will be handled by airlines themselves or by trusted OTAs such as Expedia and Booking.com.

You'll also be able to see the full details of your deal and read all the terms and conditions, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. Skyscanner never charges extra fees or commission and does its best to make pricing as transparent as possible, for instance by flagging deals that don't include baggage allowance.

Compare with Skyscanner multi-city journeys

If you’re going to be flying home from a different airport to the one you flew into, Skyscanner can still show you deals on your round trip using a single search.

The flight search engine caters to all travel plans with a “Multi-city” search option, which lets you adjust the start and endpoints of each journey, saving you time and hassle on comparing prices for each flight individually.

You can customize your flight itinerary as much as you like by adding on extra flights as well, which is especially handy if you’ve got a more complex itinerary.

Book travel wherever, whenever with the Skyscanner app

Browse for flights, even when you’re on the go, with the help of the Skyscanner app. Here you’ll find the same tools and travel bargains as the Skyscanner website, and you’ll be able to hunt for inspiration and plan your next holiday no matter where you are.

Download the app to access all the special features available to Skyscanner’s registered users, like the Recent Searches option that saves you time filling in your search details, and the Skyscanner Price Alert feature which lets you stay on top of flight price increases.

Note that using the app could invalidate your cashback. To claim cashback, make sure you access Skyscanner through Quidco's links.

5 ways to make the most of your Skyscanner cashback

If you’re not sure how to take advantage of your cashback with Skyscanner, let us help you out with a few suggestions.

1. Skyscanner deals: take a last-minute city break

Why not use Skyscanner to treat yourself to a spontaneous city break? Explore somewhere completely new by selecting the “Everywhere” option from the destination drop-down menu.

This way you can see where you can travel to for the least money from your nearest airports – ideal for finding huge deals and exciting destinations.

With cheap tickets to great value cities all over Europe and the added bonus of our cashback offers, you can look forward to amazing value when you plan your next weekend away.

2. Finally book that long-haul epic

If you’re splashing out on a round-the-world trip, you may as well earn some cashback while you’re at it. Use Skyscanner to help you book the holiday of a lifetime, by researching prices for different travel dates and airlines to make sure you’re taking advantage of any deals on offer.

Plus, Skyscanner’s multi-city search option is ideal if you’re planning to explore more than one part of the world while you’re away.

For example, use it to find out how much it would cost you to travel from London to Australia, before making your way around Southeast Asia and flying back from Thailand or Cambodia to really make the most of your trip.

3. Shop for an upgrade

With the money Skyscanner can save you on your flights you’ve got more of an excuse to upgrade from economy class. If you’re on a long-haul flight, find yourself a deal on a seat in premium economy or business, so you can enjoy a more comfortable journey and relax with some much-needed extra legroom.

Or, if you’re after real five-star treatment, travel in style with an upgrade to first class for gourmet dining, and even a proper bar on some flights.

4. Go direct

Often, the cheapest way of getting from one place to another is the least convenient, lumbering you with lengthy layovers and complicated changes. If you’re used to flying indirectly to save money, why not use your flight savings with Skyscanner and our cashback deals to justify choosing a more convenient, direct flight?

Just tick the “direct flights only” option when you use the Skyscanner search engine and they’ll show you travel options that’ll take you straight to your destination.

Flight-booking with Skyscanner

Anything else you’d like to know before using Skyscanner to book your next flights? Here are the answers to a few other questions you might have.

Which airlines are on Skyscanner?

Skyscanner has the most comprehensive database of airlines of any price comparison site and claims to allow you to search for flights with "any of the airlines of the world", including low-cost and traditional carriers. In fact, if you think that an airline is missing, Skyscanner is keen for you to let the team know!

Is it safe to book with Skyscanner?

Yes – in fact, you won't be booking with Skyscanner at all. Skyscanner is a flight comparison tool, which means that you make your flight bookings direct with the airline or ticket seller itself.

All you need to do is select your ticket on Skyscanner and then follow their links to the ticket seller's website to complete your purchase.

Why do Skyscanner prices change?

Flight prices and availability are always changing, but Skyscanner does its best to show you the most up-to-date figures. One thing that users sometimes find is that the prices in their search results are different from the prices shown in Skyscanner’s monthly price view.

This is because the monthly calendar prices are estimates based on users’ searches from the last fifteen days, and may not be completely up-to-date.

How does Skyscanner work?

Skyscanner provides users with a completely free service, with no commission. It works in partnership with airlines and travel companies, who either pay for advertising with Skyscanner or who pay Skyscanner a commission on every booking that comes to them via the Skyscanner site or app.

Is Skyscanner ATOL-protected?

The protected status of your flights depends entirely on your travel provider, so remember to read the small print on their website before you book.

Additionally, if you book a flight with a changeover in the middle, Skyscanner should tell you whether this is “protected” or not – meaning, if your first flight is delayed and you miss your connection, the airline will organise for you to complete your journey on an alternative flight.

However, some indirect flights are “self-transfer” or “non-protected transfers”, which means you will have two separate tickets and will be responsible for making sure you make your connection.

Can I cancel a flight booked through Skyscanner?

Skyscanner is not involved in your actual booking, so if you would like to cancel or change a ticket, you will need to contact the airline or travel company directly. Cancellation policies will differ depending on the company and ticket type.

If you can’t remember which airline you booked with, check your booking confirmation email.

More cashback deals like Skyscanner

Once you’ve used Skyscanner to find cheap plane tickets, you can earn even more cashback from Quidco when you book with airlines such as Flybe  and travel agents such as Expedia and Booking.com.

We’ve also got cashback on other flight and travel comparison sites such as BookingBuddy, and on holiday deals with TravelZoo.

Even though we do our best to keep the information on this page up-to-date, it may be out of date from time to time.
